PMC and Biocides
The products belonging to this group – disinfectants and substances placed on the market as germicides and bactericides, insecticides for domestic and civil use, insect-repellents, rodenticides and rat-killers for domestic and civil use – are still classified and authorised in Italy as “Presidi Medico Chirurgici” (PMC – Medical Surgical Devices).
The national legislation regulating the marketing of these products will soon be completely replaced by the European legislation on biocides, entailing the integration of PMC in the Biocide category.
Based on the Directive 98/8/EC, the list of active substances employed in the products currently on market, is under revision at a European level. Once authorised, it will be possible to use the active substances for the preparation of biocidal products.
A final list of active substances (Annexes I and IA of Directive 98/8/EC), the use of which is accepted in Europe, is to be completed by May 14, 2014.
The products currently on the market should be authorised according to the Biocide legislation, taking into consideration the inclusion or exclusion of active substances in Annexes I and IA.
