Classification of foodstuff
The food sector includes a wide range of products such as, among others, food supplements, Foods for Specific Groups (including infant formulae and follow-on formulae, cereal-based foods and other baby foods, food for special medical purposes, total diet replacement for weight control), etc.
Although these products are regulated at European level, there are several national requirements to be considered before they can be placed on the market.
In Italy, for instance, the Ministry guidelines on food supplements include a series of provisions regarding the supply of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fat acids, fibres, probiotics.
Di Renzo Regulatory Affairs has a special unit dedicated to regulatory activities for food supplements and related products (Foods for Specific Groups, added foods, food for special medical purposes, etc.), and can assist companies carrying out feasibility studies for the product classification, a labelling review based on the current regulations, and the notification to the Competent authorities, if required.
