Assistance for Novel foods
As of 1st January 2018, the new Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 on novel foods applies. Novel foods are those products and substances with no significant history of consumption at 15 May 1997 within the territory of the European Union, that should therefore be preliminary authorised by the European Union before being marketed.
Concerned companies should therefore submit an authorisation application via a specific online system. This application is to be prepared in compliance with the guidelines of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and should include data allowing the Authority to assess the safety of the novel food for consumers.
Novel foods subject to specific authorisation also include foods with no significant history of consumption in the EU but commonly marketed in extra-EU countries.
Di Renzo Regulatory Affairs has a special unit dedicated to regulatory activities for food supplements and related products (Foods for Specific Groups, novel food etc.), and can therefore assist companies in all steps required for novel food authorisation.
