FBO registration
According to article 3 of Regulation (EC) no. 178/2002, the Food Business Operator is “the natural or legal persons responsible for ensuring that the requirements of food law are met within the food business under their control”.
All operators taking part in the stages of production, processing and distribution of foods should be registered as FBO. Therefore, any company intending to market a food should be preliminary registered as FBO.
FBOs are responsible of the product they are marketing, and shall guarantee their safety and quality ensuring that the required information is reported in the label and it is correct, and that all stages of production, processing and distribution of foods meet the requirements established in the regulations.
Di Renzo Regulatory Affairs has a special unit dedicated to regulatory activities for food supplements and related products (Foods for Specific Groups, novel food etc.), and can assist companies in the registration as FBO. Thanks to its international cooperation with several consultants in the EU countries, Di Renzo Regulatory Affairs can also take care of the FBO registration in other Member States.
