Online procedure updated for food subject to notification

The Ministry of Health has published a note to clarify the actions to be taken for the products notified up to 2014.

The products involved are those classified as food supplements, formulas for infants, food for special medical purposes, gluten-free food specifically formulated for people suffering from celiac disease and food added with vitamins and minerals.

In particular, the notifications dating before 2008 and not updated afterwards, are considered automatically expired; whereas notifications or movements occurred between 2008 and 2014, if concerning products that are still on the market, should be updated by notifying the latest version of the label with the new online system no later than 30 June 2019.

The requests were triggered by the constant update of the regulations in this sector that has deeply changed in the last 10 years, also due to the application of the regulation on the mandatory information to be provided to consumers and of the regulation on the list of admitted health claims.

In the cases when the product holders have not updated their labels according to the regulation, the authority has considered the products previously notified and no more updated after 2008 as of no interest for the companies and therefore no more on the market.

The Ministry also informs that up to 30th June 2018 they will publish two registers for the classes of products for which the publication in the Ministry website is provided for.

The first register will include products notified as of 1st January 2015 and will be updated on a monthly basis through the new electronic procedure.

The second register will include products notified or marketed since 2008 until 31st December 2014 and will published until 30th June 2019. After this expiry this will be not published anymore and the products listed in it will be considered as no more on the market.

For food added with vitamins and minerals (for which there is no public register) a list including notified products and the relevant codes will be temporarily made available with the aim of making OSA easier in case of variations/notifications.
